Thread. On the 23rd of May 1994, Thedagam Library in Toronto, run by a Tamil group that was critical of the Human Rights violations committed by the LTTE and the SL state was set on fire
A few days before this incident, the group had organized a discussion on the assassination of Sabalingam (a Tamil writer based in Paris) allegedly by the LTTE or its supporters.
The group ran regular discussions on the political situation in Sri Lanka. The library had many historically important documents related to the Tamil struggle for liberation.
The group organized protests against the attacks on Tamils by the SL state and the killing of Muslims in the East. They also organized an event condemning the eviction of Muslims from the North and participated in anti-racist protests in Toronto.
The documents this library housed included pamphlets and publications by various Tamil militant groups.
The June 2 edition of Sarinigar published from Colombo stated that according to sources based in Canada, the library was set on fire by the LTTE. When we remember the burning of the Jaffna public library by the SL state, some of us Tamils also remember the burning of the Thedagam library in 1994 in Toronto.
A brief report (in English) on this incident in the June 1994 edition of Tamil Times. See page 7. http://noolaham.net/project/34/3382/3382.pdf
