Hello, I’m back on the protest beat. I’m with thousands of people in Laurelhurst Park who just started moving. Everyone is chanting “George Floyd.”

I’ll keep you updated if that changes.
Reception is terrible in this crowd, but thousands are still headed East on Burnside.
Some protestors faced off with police at the police station on E Burnside
Here’s an emotional exchange there
Now on 60th Ave, crossing the overpass by the MAX station
I have no idea where we are headed and most people here don’t either. Most showed up not even knowing if they would just hang out in the park until curfew. So far the only cops visible have been at their precinct, which you can see in the back of this photo.
We passed an older Black couple who were moved to tears and left the house to start following the crowd in house slippers and bare feet for a bit.
Here’s what the crowd looked like as we left the park.
Now turning on to NE Halsey by Lil Cooperstown Pub and Grill. Crowd chanting for Breonna Taylor.
So far most drivers and neighbors are very supportive. One person in scrubs did try to get the marchers to stop for a minute so she could get to work but no dice.
We are going south on Halsey, which appears to mean we are headed in a loop. No cops visible and no major events so far. The tone is very family friendly and chill.
I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone without a mask in this crowd of thousands. It’s like a test drive for reopening, if we all just walk around outside until a vaccine.
About half an hour to curfew
This Candace Avalos fan came to observe
We are now passing the 24 Hour Firness on NE Halsey, which is ironic because this is the most cardio I’ve done since it shut down.
Several dozen people peeling off at the transit center here. Still thousands now turning past Trader Joe’s in the direction of Sandy.
Taking NE Broadway heading west. Vibe stays largely focused on George Floyd chanting.
Finally reached the front of the march as we head west on Broadway.
