I see a lot of people struggling with the idea of privilege and what that means. So:

Think about a big, heavy rock. We all carry a big, heavy rock on our shoulders. It’s made up of the challenges and difficulties of being a human. Which is hard, in many ways, for everyone. 1/5
Now, for a non-male, add another layer of heavy rock onto that for the challenges faced through gender inequality.

For a person of colour, you can add another, thick, suffocatingly heavy layer of rock made of racial inequality. 2/5
For LGBTQI people, add another layer made up of inequality based on sexuality.

White Privilege is only carrying one or two or three of those layers. Not carrying the full weight of all four. This is why straight, white men are said to have it easier. They have one layer. 3/5
It’s not that life is easy for anyone. It’s not. It’s that the burdens and challenges posed by our current society aren’t nearly as heavy when you carry less layers in your personal rock. 4/5
This is why Black Lives Matter. Why LGBTQI rights are worth fighting for. Why we need gender equality.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all just carried the same sized rock? 5/5
