Things I'm noticing/remembering now while rewatching The Vampire Diaries again after all those years; a thread:
The music was good. Really good actually. I remember now that I got introduced to a lot of good tracks because of them. And I remember loving the series more because they used some of my favorite songs.
I remember how much I hated Caroline and how much she changed along the seasons.
Stephan was/is creepy. Elena was/is so annoying. Bonnie is still my favorite female from the kickstart. The whole Emo Jeremy thing was and still is funny.
Now I'm wondering though if someone else was writing Damon lines. Because he's the only character that's had a good script and arc up from episode one. Like, the word choices are different even. The way he talks and moves and the things he cares about.. it's a weird contrast.
So either I'm biased because he is my favorite anyway, or he's really written differently because he's supposedly an adult and they're teens and all.
Also, Ian does fit a vampire more than Paul.
Now I actually remember that Paul/Stefan stayed monotonous and lifeless throughout while Ian/Damon changed and got more then less then more lively/human than ever.
Okay, I am biased. Especially now that I notice I forgot Stefan is spelled with an F not a PH. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️
I also love how they threw Damon and his Crow/Raven at us from the very first moments and we were clueless to what it means and foreshadows. I mean they literally were like ‘Hey! Damon got to her first.’ And we kept watching like, c o i n c i d e n c e.
Damon's ‘I promised you an eternity of misery,’ actually encompasses the entire brothers relationship.
The history fucking teacher. That was the worst written character in the show. So, thank God for Alaric even before he shows up.
Also, what the hell were they all wearing. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 This gives me cringy flashbacks to the 2000's fashion.
Never noticed Caroline had a little star tattoo on her right foot. Never noticed any of the characters having tattoos before actually. Interesting. How many more do..?
Elena and Stefan's first kiss was on Sarah Bareilles' Gravity. Which reminds me that hers and Damon's was on Levi Kreis' I Should Go. Both have the same rhythm and mood, and that's interesting.
But the contrast shows when Delena gets their first ACTUAL kiss, which was on Ross Copperman's Holding on and Letting Go. And that reminds me that almost each love scene between these two was far more passionate and loud; while they kept it all sweet and slow with Stelena.
I still love whoever picked and arranged the soundtracks for this show. ❤️
Wait, why did they have the history teacher be the football coach as well..? Was he the only available teacher in this town?!
Bonnie's doodles: SPOILERS EVERYWHERE.
Matt really was just another bus boy.
Can I punch Tyler?
The way Damon's character shifts from boyish/careless around Stefan and Caroline then smooth and caring and flirty around Elena is just..
The way his body language shifted when they started discussing Catherine's death in the kitchen.. and his expression when Elena said ‘I'm sorry.. about Catherine. You lost her, too.’
Like, he didn't even say one word, and still, he revealed a million expressions more than the lifeless, monotonous Stefan.
I mean, look:
That was like the first time anyone's ever acknowledged his love for Katherine, acknowledged his loss. And to come form her doppelganger..?
Did I write Katherine with a C up there..? Yes. Yes, I did. God, that one hell of a rusty memory for someone who used to write TVD fanfics. I'm ashamed. 😂
Here's a weird comment, but I've always admired the line of lingerie they used in this series. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️
The coach's announcement that “we're Timberwolves, we're hungry,” a second before Tyler spirals out of control was nicely and clearly placed, and we still missed it.
Damon's humanity was all about love and acceptance. Not sure about Stefan's. Probably the fear of becoming the monster he knows he is? Losing control?
Guess I'll keep an eye out for an answer for them both.
“Katherine is dead! And you hate me because you loved her. And you torture me because you still do. And that, my brother.. that is your humanity.”
Elena was a really wacky old sister.
Wait, Caroline's father left her mother because he was gay and cheating on her with a dude..?! 😂 HOW DID I MISS THAT?!!
