Cole World: The Sideline Story Review
Intro- 8/10
Cole begins with a catchy piano tune that turns into an amazing verse that sounds amazing and sets up the theme for the entire album
Dollar and a Dream III- 6/10
Great last few verses and hook, drags on a little, but still a classic. Will always be the definition of Cole's rise to fame
Can’t Get Enough (feat. Trey Songz)- 7/10
I mean come on it’s just fun. No message. Just lets fuck.
Lights Please- 7/10
Good at conveying Cole’s naturally good nature, but the fact that he still is human. The slower live version is better
Interlude- 6/10
Entertaining, and an absolutely flawless transfer into the next song that has made me nut many times
Sideline Story- 9/10
I am still speechless after listening to this song however many times I have. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s the best song on the album. Hands down.
Mr. Nice Watch (feat. JAY-Z)- 2/10
An extreme high to an extreme low, probably one of Cole’s worst songs ever. It doesn’t seem like Cole made this, and was forced to. JAY-Z is better in this song
Cole World- 4/10
The only thing that rescues this song is Cole’s lyrical ability. And even that is really weak at points. An improvement, but not really
In the Morning (feat. Drake)- 6/10
Great production, Cole has great verses, Drake is Drake, and I don’t like Drake.
Lost Ones- 8/10
A heartfelt debate between a couple who have no idea what to do and feel Lost. Always worth a listen, and shows the beginnings of Cole’s heart shining through his music.
Nobody’s Perfect (feat. Missy Elliot)- 6.5/10
Tried not to use decimals but this song is just fine. Missy Elliot has a good feature. Right between 6 and 7
Never Told- 6/10
Again. Just a fine Cole song, not bad, but not great. This song is pretty much what this whole album is, just fine.
Rise and Shine- 8/10
Dat shit schlapps with great lyrics, but it's Cole so I wouldn't expect anything less
God’s Gift- 9/10
Hot take and a half but God's Gift is better than Rise and Shine. It’s got such great production, lyrics, sound and flow
Breakdown- 7/10
Cole does well with diving into his feelings about his father with a really good hook
Work Out- 7/10
I wanna see ya- oh sorry was just singing this catchy hook and great production. A ridiculous song but a fun one
Who Dat- 3/10
This is just not a good song man. I know this was made purely to get radio hits, but this is bad
Daddy’s Little Girl- 4/10
It isn't an awful song but it’s pretty bad. Not much to say about it
Now obviously this wasn't the most in depth review, but I had fun relistening to the humble beginning of my favorite artist. Overall, this album is a 6/10. Has some really good tracks, but the lows bring it down so much.
