All day today, I’ve been speaking with community leaders from up and down the state Delaware about the work we have ahead.

I’m on the way to another community listening session, but I wanted to share some brief thoughts on the day.
First, I’m heartbroken by the pain and anguish in our state and our country right now, but I’m also inspired by how many people are raising their hands to help and make change.
It’s clear that our institutions that are supposed to provide justice for every American have failed. We must do more than repair them - we must remake them stronger than ever before.
We’ve been in moments like this before and failed to make the major, structural changes that are required. This time must be different. It must be different.
To every Delawarean, but in particular, to Black Delawareans: I am committed to fighting for you, to working with you, to protesting with you, and to praying with you.
Most importantly, I am committed to listening. Right now, all elected officials need to listen more than we speak and make sure we don’t just listen, but truly hear what our communities are saying.
