I’ve been reflecting on every interaction I’ve had with a cop and thought how different it would’ve been if I wasn’t a white woman. (A THREAD) I’ve been caught trespassing in pools 3x, I’ve been pulled over speeding at least 4x and I’ve been pulled over for expired tags...
I was let off with warnings. I had to pay one ticket but the cop knocked the ticket down to make it cheaper. Let me also admit I was 2 mph away from reaching reckless driving speed and the cop was knocking the ticket down for me!!!...
So let’s talk about the fact that I have had at least 7 interactions with cops reprimanding me and not one of them was fatal. I was not harassed. I was not belittled. I was not interrogated. I did not have to fear for my life...
If I were a POC any one of those interactions could’ve ended my life. I ran away from the cops once after being caught in trespassing in a pool and I wasn’t shot in the back. I wasn’t even yelled at.
When I get pulled over, I’m told “I’ll let it slide.. you remind me of my daughter.” I’m not being told to get on the ground. I’m not being treated like a criminal. So why are black men and women being killed for the same things I’ve done and I just got a warning?
This inequality is why we are fighting back! This is why we are protesting! This is why this country that was built on stolen land on the backs of slaves should burn! We need to stand with our brothers and sisters and fight back!
If you aren’t apart of the solution you are apart of the problem. I encourage you, white people, to think back at all the times you’ve been stopped by cops. Would the outcome have been different if you were a POC? I’m sure the answer is yes so get off your ass and help
help in anyway you can. Lift up black voices. Listen to black voices. Donate to BLM and bail funds for protestors. Protest if you can. Recognize your white privilege and use it for good. Get in where you fit in. It’s our duty. It’s also the least we can fucking do.
