I sat my son down and explained about what is going on in the US and around the world. He's 9. He told me that he knows people are judged by the color of their skin because he was there when his friend at his Boys and Girls Club had mean things said to her because she is black.
He said he didn't understand why they were saying those things because she has always been nice to him.

I told him that even if he didn't know she is a nice person, no one deserves to be treated differently because of the color of their skin.
We also talked about white privilege. I told him white people can have hard lives of course, but that our plight isn't as hard as people of color because they have to deal with prejudices on top of everything else.
