Pretty incredible sequence of events here in Louisville. After police block off end of street, stopping hundreds of protestors, protestors kneel. Then police decide to fall back and let them through
Video is too long to share in its entirety so I’ll do it in three parts. Here’s the first, showing the stand off
Here’s protestors kneeling in front of the line of police blocking them off
And here’s the police falling back
Before the officers retreated, a black female officer tried to get her colleagues (all white) to fall back. They weren’t listening, and it took them long enough to listen to her that protestors started to notice and call it out. Then they all moved back and out of the way
The crowd has grown and spent the past hour by the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. The organizers are trying to get people to willfully disperse and go home, but there’s some resistance and confusion because it’s too many people to speak to all at once
She just went in for the hug, and the officer accepted. Lasted almost a minute. Incredible
The man speaking to the crowd pointed out that the officer has been tearing up. “My man is crying, we’re making progress, my man is crying”
The mood just swung very quickly. Officers have started putting on gas masks. Are warning about dispensing chemicals. Note: there are many children in the crowd and it is not curfew time yet
Tonight in Louisville was instigated by the police. Also, now my eyes are burning
