On a positive note, it feels really good to see people let out some righteous anger against the world that makes our lives miserable.
As you know I love Marx (duh) he was a brilliant man whose insights into human existence, capitalism, and class struggle remain timeless. However I think what often gets lost in talking about him is the righteous anger and indignation he felt.
Marx ultimately didn’t write about capitalism because he was smart he wrote about it because he felt the same combination of anger and sadness we feel when we look around at the poor and oppressed and he wanted to understand why.
He was brilliant and methodical so it doesn’t always come out but there was an emotional core- a passion to his work that probably resonates with me more than anything.
Marx wasn’t Marx and I’m not a marxist because it’s the smart thing to do, it’s because of the way one feels looking at the Condition of the poor and oppressed- and at how little control Any one of us has to fix the injustice.
