The president has just decided that anyone battling fascism is the enemy.

If this follows the logic of the USA Patriot Act — and why wouldn’t it? – it means that anybody who supports Trump’s opposition is supporting terrorism and could therefore be arrested, fined, have money or property confiscated by the cops, etc., perhaps without a trial.

Another important thing to remember is that if you are designated a terrorist, or a terrorist supporter, you lose most legal protections. We have the second Bush presidency to thank for that.

I can see a scenario where somebody who donated a couple hundred dollars to a bail fund associated with anti-fascist groups could be prosecuted for aiding terrorism.

I’d like to take this moment to say fuck you to anyone, from 2015 to the present moment, who said that preventing Trump from occupying the White House was not a good enough reason to vote for whoever was running against him. We now see where that kind of thinking has gotten us.

Vast numbers of people looked at Trump, as early as 2015, then looked at the people he associated with, and concluded if he ever became president he would become a dictator and destroy the USA. Those people were mostly laughed at, labeled hysterical or politically not serious.

There’s no point in relitigating the past, it doesn’t matter. I don’t know if there’s a point telling people to hold their nose and vote for Biden because the alternative is the end of any hope of this country living up to its ideals. Who knows if there will even be an election.

I do know that well a lot of people on here were stretching and preening and announcing how politically serious they were, a monster was gathering force and announcing himself to everyone as a monster, proudly, and we collectively failed to stop in when we had a chance.

Then the Senate failed when they had a chance, during the impeachment process. Trump’s removal was prevented along strict partisan lines. These Republicans have decided to go down with the ship. Trump at the wheel, the iceberg already in sight.

I have no sympathy or patience for anybody who defends the police at this point in our history. It was always a specious position to take but it’s l laughable now. If you root for the cops you are rooting for Trump. They are his army now.

The authoritarian-loving, violence exporting, dissent crushing soul of this country has always been close to the surface even during times of relative peace. It has fully emerged from the earth now, and you have to be delusional or lying to deny the evidence of your senses.

You can see who is supporting authoritarianism. They aren’t hiding it. Many of them are on social media crowing about how delighted they are by the footage of cops randomly spraying people from car windows, pushing old men with canes down into the street. They get off on it.

I don’t know where we go from here. I don’t think anybody does. But you need to wrap your mind around what this country has become and how bad it could get. This is a failed nation state ruled by a dictator who does what he wants because he has no checks or balances.

Everything else in life seems so trivial when you look at what’s happening in the streets right now. Donate to progrr progressive-oriented bail funds and defense funds. Donate to the ACLU. Give as much money as you can before they are declared terrorist organizations, too.

To whoever needs to hear this: you were warned that this would happen. *We* were warned that this would happen. If you failed to grasp the obvious seriousness of the threat back when it could have stopped this disaster, you own a piece of this.

Fuck you, too, to the people who hated Trump but thought maybe he would somehow be a good thing for the country because his awfulness would expose flaws in the system, highlight progressive causes, etc. He is dismantling the system. He is the system now.

I don’t know where to begin with the members of the Trump cult. Deplorable doesn’t cover it. These are the people who brought a picnic lunch to a lynching and gathered to watch boxcars going to the camps. No matter how evil it gets, they will never desert him.

And you’re never going to be able to reach any of the Trump cultists because they never really had much sense and they get their news from a self contained ecosystem that reinforces the message that he’s doing great, and even if he isn’t, the left is worse.
