For anyone out there wondering how they can combat racism, systemic oppression or uncouncious bias here is a practical starting point. Start at home when kids are young. The books, magazines, films...that you introduce to your children will help shape their worldview full stop.
So next time you are thinking about getting a new children’s book pick up a book or two with strong black characters. And make this a part of your children’s library/bookshelf. I’ve put together a list of beautiful children’s books with amazing black characters
