I think it's important to remind everyone that the Alberta Teachers Association ( @albertateachers) banned teachers from condemning the treatment of Una and Emmell.

This was blatant racism and they chose to be silent. https://twitter.com/BashirMohamed/status/1263254830715416576
We had teachers willing to speak out. Like it was all lined up and everything. But then @albertateachers threatened professional consequences.

I can't tell you how much easier it would have made our advocacy if they were allowed to speak.
I'm sorry for being so salty right now but it's super frustrating to see so many Canadian politicians and public figures (trustees, union reps) post shit about challenging racism when they were so complicit.

This stuff runs deep and their intentions are so clear.
It's so strange seeing people in power acknowledge anti-Black racism. It's weird because there were so many times where they should have spoken up.

Instead they just stayed silent. Even in times when the racism was so obvious and RECORDED.
Sorry just for some context:

The rationale for the ban was that it was 'unprofessional' and against teachers conduct if they were to critique another schools policy.

Even if that policy or action is racist.
If you don't believe me then just ask the @albertateachers for confirmation.
