Papua and Indonesia [A THREAD]
It all started on 1961 and 1962, where Papua island itself was still occupied by the Netherlands.
However, on 19th December 1961. Soekarno (The first president of Indonesia) established a command named People’s Triple Command or Tri Komando Rakyat (Trikora); the Command itself was lead by Major General Soeharto (The second president of Indonesia/The successor of Soekarno)
Later on, on 15th August 1962, the Dutch/Netherland government signed an agreement called “The New York Agreement)
Has anyone heard of Irian Jaya? It was actually an abbreviation of Ikut Republik Indonesia Anti Netherland (Join the Republic of Indonesia Anti Netherland). The abbreviation itself was made by a national hero from Papua: Frans Kaisiepo.
By the end of this thread, all I would say is that even though Papua is one of the furthest yet underdeveloped region in Indonesia, please take a note that it has one of the biggest Gold Mine in the world; Grasberg copper-gold mine, Mimika Regency, Papua.
The sad thing about the gold mine is it is under control by a non-Indonesian enterprise; Freeport. And it has been operated since 1973 (47 years)
Also don’t forget to mention about the beautiful beaches and underwater nature itself. But for now on, let’s just #StayAtHome until everything become better.
Thank You and stay safe everyone :)
Please correct me if I said anything wrong 🙏😊
