for those not familiar with Chicago, the bridges are up to seal off the downtown area. https://twitter.com/robertloerzel/status/1267131545875292162">https://twitter.com/robertloe...
really the only other time you see the bridges go up is a few weekends in the spring and the fall when rich people bring their big boats to or from the lake marinas via the river system.
I& #39;ve lived in the area basically my whole life, worked downtown on and off, been to lots of protests and marches down there, and have *never* seen the bridges used as a crowd control mechanism.
Again, if you& #39;re not familiar. This is what the bridge system looks like. Downtown is essentially a peninsula if you cut the bridges off, accessible only from the south.
This is the current state of the busses and trains. Downtown is *also* cut off from public transportation.
And Lake Shore Drive is closed to downtown, both northbound and southbound.
the only example of this happening before in Chicago is literally fictional: they did it in the Batman movies filmed here. https://twitter.com/robertloerzel/status/1267187245984989184?s=20">https://twitter.com/robertloe...
Anyway, when your approach for dealing with protest mirrors Gotham& #39;s, you& #39;re fucked.
