Hi, @PhillyInquirer op-ed editor here. As my fellow editor @elenagooray + I are thinking about the opinion pages in the days and weeks ahead, here are the questions/themes we're discussing w/r/t the ongoing protests. This can — and will likely —change as events evolve.
What has to change in the Philadelphia police department—or its role in our justice system—to end the systemic racism it currently enacts?
What comes next? Talking about concrete actions — from taking down Rizzo statue, to changing parole system, to increasing school funding especially in black neighborhoods.
What can be done to promote and ensure physical safety of black Philadelphians over the next few months, including COVID treatment, testing, protections?
How do we capture the immediate emotional reaction that individuals and groups are dealing with right now and respectfully elevate voices of those most impacted?
