TO THE BRANDS/BIG BUSINESSES POSTING SUPPORT FOR RACIAL INJUSTICE RIGHT NOW - A thread.

A corporation is like a robot with a rotating soul. In order to know what you are, it can’t be just in the word of the soul but in the design of the machine.

Your staff maybe did something great. Radical, even. Or perhaps your team is for the first time voicing a need to do better. This is a great start. But what matters most are the steps you are making to the structure of your company to make your sentiment a measurable reality.

Who is empowered at your company? How are they compensated? Where do you donate? What opportunities do you provide? And most importantly, what checks and balances are in place to guarantee these values don’t fall out of fashion when employees come and go.

Much about posting political alliance is about establishing Brand Loyalty to your customers, or potential new customers. That can be sincere, but it also is an ask for brand preference. What actions of loyalty to progress are you promising in exchange for American dollars?

Here is the ask: Release a tangible statement of deliverables on racial justice within your company that your customers can hold you accountable to. Make them irriversable. Post your progress as an example to other brands.

Then We’ll know the current soul of your company matches it’s design long term, and we can hold it’s next wave of employees to the same standard.

It is a hard and expensive road to change a company. Especially in industries that can’t immediately profit from that change. Models that were not built to support these politics. But it is your duty as the soul inside the machine to do this work. Change the parts. Built anew.

P.S. be explicit. No blanket statements about diversity, this is about Black people. Kill your buzzwords and your broad reach - be direct and clear and serve the community that prompted your recent posts.
