As we enter a new phase of schools being open to more chn, I thought I’d do a thread on what I’ve seen of the education sector over these past few weeks. Grab a tea and here we go.
THREAD ... #EduTwitter
I have seen leaders showing why they are so inspirational, being both reactive and proactive to changing or confusing guidance. I’ve seen them providing food for families and going above and beyond every single day to ensure people are safe.
I’ve seen them have sleepless night because they care so much about their children, families and schools. Thank you 🙏🏻
I’ve seen cleaning/kitchen and MDA staff continuing to work hard to keep work places clean and tummies fed. I’ve seen them learn new infection control strategies and designing menus that maximise chn’s independence.
I’ve seen business managers and admin staff continuing to be the backbone of our schools. Talking to worried families, doing the end of year finances and all the usual admin support.
I’ve seen support staff continuing to support KWV chn in school making sure they are happy and safe and feel secure. They’ve helped them complete the home learning set by their teachers in school. TAs and LSAs are all superheroes and have continued to be throughout!
I’ve seen student teachers continuing to support the chn in their placement schools, continuing to work hard on their course work and, for those due to start in September, excitedly prepping for the lucky chn who get to be in their classes 🥰 You are about to start the best job!
... and then there’s the teachers 🥰 I’ve seen the teachers setting online work for chn to complete at home. I’ve seen them videoing motivational messages, reading stories aloud, learning new skills. So much to keep that class bond going even though we’ve been apart.
I’ve seen teachers writing letters to their chn, phoning them at home, holding conference calls so that chn can see them and each other. I’ve seen teachers filming live lessons, talking over PowerPoints, learning and adapting to these new ways of ‘teaching’.
I’ve seen teachers in school, supporting KWV chn. Devising activities for them that make these strange times full of fond memories. We’ve cried with our chn, laughed with them, learned with them😍
I’ve seen teachers support each other, hold each other up, share resources and ideas, celebrate each other. I’ve seen teachers engage in extra CPD, increasing subject knowledge, reading children’s books ... all to better themselves.
I’ve seen teachers making resources, sharing resources, providing CPD for other teachers. I’ve seen teachers reach out to students and NQTs, welcoming them into our wonderful profession during these strange times.
You can choose what you see and I have seen so much positivity over the past few weeks of lockdown. I’m super proud of our profession and I know whatever the next few weeks being us, we will smash that too 🥰
