I’m a rookie cop and so I’ve only known body worn cameras. And I love them. They record my interactions with my neighbors. When my neighbors pull out phones and say they’re recording me I always say ‘you should’. Maybe don’t put stupid Instagram cat ears on me but whatever.
I understand video can be edited so that context is lost. I’m not a child. But some things don’t need context. There is nothing edited that can make what cops did to George Floyd legal and ok. There is no context for kicking a person covering their face. It’s not complicated
I say again & again & again & again this one approach: if you didn’t have a badge & a gun, how would you handle this 911 call? Whatever you come up with that is legal, kind, and fair, try that first. Because if you rely on that gun or badge you will end up using one or both.
I am nothing special but I am consistent. I work for my neighbors. All of them. I’m lucky in many ways. And I haven’t learned much but I have learned this:

we all matter or none of us do.

If you think that’s naive or dumb, I beg you, please don’t be a cop
People ask me if our problems in police stem from training & I say nope...Cuz we are training for what our mindset is, that this is a war on crime. So we train for war. I say change the training by changing the entire mindset. We are not at war. Change that & we change it all.
