I once had an African-American oneness Pentecostal friend tell me that sometimes he felt like the Latino and White church just loved him for his talent but never considered him more than an entertainer or singer.
His words resonate with me more now more than ever.
He told me his experience was non-African-American communities of faith were quick to invite someone Black to praise sing or play an instrument but rarely to preach or collaborate in leadership.
I wonder what the numbers would be if we looked at the representation of African-Americans that are singers or musicians vs African-Americans that are preachers/leaders in communities of faith that identify as predominantly Latino or White???
Now, more than ever believers and especially leaders of faith that are not black need to sit down with fellow believers or leaders of faith that are part of the African-American community to hear and listen to their experience.
