I’m here for @OUDaily on the corner of NE 36th and Kelley for today’s #BLM protest. Protest not scheduled to begin until 2:30 but chanting participants already line both sides of the street. Be sure to follow this thread for updates.
Numbers continue to swell here as 2:30 draws nearer. No visible police presence as of yet.
The majority of protesters have crossed Kelley and are congregating outside Nappy Roots Books
Protestors have been informed that the bookstore is a safe space with first aid and other services at their availability. Protest organizer Sheri Dickerson has begun to speak.
Protestors have been strongly encouraged to attend this coming Tuesday’s virtual city council meeting. Additionally protestors are being told by someone with a megaphone to boycott businesses in the community on June 9
Protestors have been told that the gathering is about to come to a close and the march will begin thereafter.
Protesters continue their march toward the capital as I finish my interviews. Thanks for following this thread and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for my story on today’s events later this evening.
