I was in Sac for six hours yesterday, protesting police murder/brutality, advocating for George Floyd and BLM. I’ve been hesitant about posting my experience, but I feel like everyone should know HOW it went from a peaceful protest to something so chaotic.
We began at the Capitol, where everything was going smoothly. Protestors were chanting and a few were yelling at the officers. Some officers even shed tears like they gave a fuck
We then took to the streets, where some bystanders just stood on the side taking videos of us. ALLTHEWHILE, we still stood our ground. Once we were heading towards the freeway, officers blocked it off and started throwing flashbangs into our crowd.
Up to this point, and even after, we remained peaceful. White people would voluntarily go to the front and everyone stood together. Even when officers were shooting rubber bullets and throwing flashbangs.. for no real reason, we still stood together.
We would go back to the Capitol, and take the streets again. Eventually, officers blocked one of the streets in downtown, and we stood our ground there. They would randomly shoot and throw flashbangs, forcing us to back up/disperse when no one had —
even tried to push through their line of men. EVEN when protestors had their hands up, we were still shot at. Unfortunately, my phone was dead almost the whole time.. but my cousin got this on camera
The officers came TO SHOOT. We were there when this happened.. one of my cousins tried calling 911 for an ambulance THAT NEVER SHOWED UP. Meanwhile, my other cousin, another woman, and myself ran to a random vehicle for help & they drove him to the hospital https://twitter.com/sasukepriv/status/1266947761473126403
All the protestors walked up to officers to say our piece, WITH OUR HANDS UP. We were shot at WITH OUR HANDS UP. There was only one group of aggressors, and it was the officers. There was no looting or rioting until that kid was shot IN THE FACE.
The officers at the end of the night (SAC PD) had no identifying numbers or names visible. When mentioning Stephon Clark, some of the officers LAUGHED IN OUR FACES...
My only regret from last night is not being able to do more... #BLM
