Journalism is an important role I take seriously because I know information can get unintentionally filtered from the event to the people. That’s why I want to make it a point to note that many different things were happening at the #GeorgeFloydprotest that might get overlooked
Hundreds of people were protesting, calling for a change to the system that leads to black people dying by police
Chanting
“No justice, no peace”
“Hands up, don’t shoot”
“Say his name, George Floyd”
Holding up signs in support of Black Lives Matter

Other demonstrators handed out water, face masks, and hand sanitizer to fellow protesters in the crowd
Some protesters walked the State Highway Patrol line shaking the troopers’ hands
One person said “thanks for being here, we’re just here to fight against injustice and get people to understand”

A Christian church group marched down Broad Street to the Statehouse singing “Waymaker”
They held a prayer on the west plaza of the Statehouse calling for an end to injustice and hatred

Trevon from Columbus said the protests are a way to get people to make a change
“We’re out here trying to be heard”

There were people who would join in on the protests then walk around with brooms and trash bags to help cleanup the city
These were things I saw at the Statehouse and around Downtown Columbus. There’s no doubt many other things happened that I missed. Stay safe and stay informed
