White people: this isn’t about Wall Street. This is not about YOU and your idea of a revolution based on photos you romanticize. The actual revolution you’re looking for involves you not being front and center, listening, walking the walk in real life where no camera may see you.
2. There are those white people who are in the midst of their “first rodeo” - who live in a bubble...who can be sat down, taught, that their reaction does the opposite of what they want. They’ll take it in. Be embarrassed, but they’ll change. What worries me are the ones who have
3. been waiting for this moment. Thinking the revolution will come with Trump in office. Who have been fooled by trolls online for years and are happily creating chaos. Who won’t listen. Who think everything is about the economy & dismiss Black people as being “uninformed.”
4. These are the people who will ensure Trump’s re-election.
5. Do you think the average person who is apolitical, isn’t on Twitter & just sees cable news isn’t gonna secretly think, “Well, I think Trump is keeping us safe. Look at the police in their military gear stopping these “riots.” I think we stay the course for now.” If you turn
6. protests into riots with your stupid skateboards bashing in windows, and your anarchy symbols everywhere - you’re changing the outward face of what this is. But when you’re the type who secretly resents the truly oppressed (cuz there’s no room for YOU) - you don’t care that
7. you’re burning it all down - because deep down, young white ‘liberal’ anarchists, you’re no different than the “economically anxious” Trump supporter. It’s hard to admit & most won’t but you’re aggrieved that you didn’t get yours yet & yet you do have belief in your heart
8. that you want equality. You may not fear Black people running the world but - there’s that tiny feeling inside of you - that everyone must examine to be a true ally - that is angry that women and PoC may get things before you due to some progress that’s been made. And you
9. continually reframe the conversation so that everything is about economics. Yes. All intelligent people are aware that economics and race are tied together. But you have it backwards. Solving racism is the first priority. If you’re so against this idea - time to look at why.
10. Here comes the harassment. I’m sure. So I’m done talking. I used to be pretty intelligent but years of social media has changed my ability to articulate. I hate threads. That’s my take on all of this. Bye.
11. I am not reading comments so you can take your “I’m curious” or “Serious question” or “well actually” and shove it in your shoe.
