Another thing about the Arabian Sea cyclone - the landfall timing has moved up; models now make landfall on Wednesday. Yet official track and intensity forecasts aren& #39;t being issued yet, because it isn& #39;t formally a cyclone yet.
Official track and intensity forecasts, warnings and so on, are done out to 5 days in advance, but they *only start once the system has been named*. This system doesn& #39;t work well when storms make landfall within less than 5 days of being named.
This is not just a weakness of IMD& #39;s system, but of nearly every government forecast agency& #39;s. (In the US, the NHC just in the last couple years has started issuing forecasts before "genesis" to handle this, but I believe only when landfall is within a couple days.)
Thus this is a time when the official forecasts and warnings may lag a bit behind the reality. I hope @IMDWeather and the media make a special effort to keep people informed as this situation develops.
