Another thing about the Arabian Sea cyclone - the landfall timing has moved up; models now make landfall on Wednesday. Yet official track and intensity forecasts aren't being issued yet, because it isn't formally a cyclone yet.
Official track and intensity forecasts, warnings and so on, are done out to 5 days in advance, but they *only start once the system has been named*. This system doesn't work well when storms make landfall within less than 5 days of being named.
This is not just a weakness of IMD's system, but of nearly every government forecast agency's. (In the US, the NHC just in the last couple years has started issuing forecasts before "genesis" to handle this, but I believe only when landfall is within a couple days.)
Thus this is a time when the official forecasts and warnings may lag a bit behind the reality. I hope @IMDWeather and the media make a special effort to keep people informed as this situation develops.
