Who is gonna be the first mayor to go rogue?
Who is gonna be the first mayor to compromise by deploying police to local businesses only? And justify it by saying they need to preserve their capacity? So far all of them have prioritized multi-national corporations over "their beautiful city's" actual residents. No surprise.
Who is gonna be the first mayor to order a retreat? And justify it by saying the cops need a break or they have to strategize? So far the "liberal" mayors are all to the right of the police unions. Sounds like fascism to me.
Who is gonna be the first mayor to, instead of co-opting the protests locally (classic move), lead a march on the county seat or the state capitol? It happens in other countries all the time when the national govt is unpopular. They're showing you how far-right they actually are.
Who is gonna be the first mayor to do what they've always done in San Francisco for Pride parades? To designate a police-free safe space + let the protestors organize safety teams instead? Still wack but doable. It says a lot that they're not even seeking re-election by doing so.
These are all corny ideas that leave the power of state and capital intact. But when you think like a mayor + remember these options, it really makes you realize the degree to which they are all willfully escalating state violence on behalf of multi-national capital. ALL OF THEM.
To the best of my knowledge, not a single US mayor has even asked to meet with a delegation from the protests, not even the non-profits who they already know personally and who want to be in city government someday. That stage has not even arrived yet. The mayors are wilding out.
Great thread on counter-insurgency. All of the compromises listed above are counter-insurgency tactics. The cops are being strategic. The "liberal" mayors are not. The mayors are to the right of the cops rn. They're not just the enemy, they're the ENEMY. https://twitter.com/IronProle/status/1266972589471088640?s=19
