Coronavirus & the riots last night are both connected via media failure. Most people of all races have zero to fear from the virus or the police. But most in the country have been terrified by the media fear porn. That leads to emotional rather than logical responses.

It’s a failure of our society right now that fear is more powerful than logic, that feelings spread much faster than facts. Our leaders — and our media institutions — are failing the public. You can’t make smart public policy without reliable data.

I wish I had the solution — believe me, I think about it all the time — but I’m not sure how to change this. But I think one of the keys is we need more honest & smarter media & more honest & smarter leaders.
