THREAD: Mark Duggan wasn’t a ‘victim of police violence’.

He was a ruthless, violent criminal who lived by the gun & died by it.

He was shot by professionals keeping the public (& themselves safe) whilst transporting a firearm.

He brought misery to his community. https://twitter.com/bencsmoke/status/1267066734810476544
Duggan’s death was ruled ‘lawful killing’ at the Royal Courts of Justice.

An appeal by the Duggan family saw the matter re-examined at the High Court in London.

The ruling of ‘lawful killing’ was upheld.

He was not a ‘victim of police violence’.
5 days of rioting in August 2011 saw over 186 police officers injured attempting to keep the Queen’s peace and protect life & property.

Members of public were also injured and 999 colleagues were put under immense pressure responding to fires and treating those in need.
An estimated £200 million of property damage was caused as a result of mindless violence, looting & criminal damage.

Shops & businesses - providing a vital service to the local community in Tottenham & beyond were reduced to nothing.

The violence spread to other UK cities too.
People like Ben Smoke aren’t journalists.

They’re anti-police activists who want to see civil disorder in the UK from an awful event which took place almost 4000 miles away.

He’s the same guy who told police who challenged him earlier this week to ‘shut the f*ck up’.
Community leaders, MPs & those in authority must do all they can to harbour peace and not stoke the fires of division.

We do not want to see a return to rioting at all but particularly not at a time of national crisis with a global pandemic.

You have a responsibility to all.
We all want justice for #GeorgeFloyd.

That can only be obtained through peaceful & lawful protest, tough community conversations, responsibility & high standards from police.

Violence/looting/criminal damage/robbery/burglary - it doesn’t honour his memory, it stamps on it.
To my colleagues, we can see how the actions of a police officer 4000 miles away can make our job more difficult.

Those who hate us will capitalise on this.

Maintain your integrity, keep doing the sterling work you’re already doing & engage with the lawful, supportive majority.
To everyone else, #staysafe.

Thankyou for your support.

We really do appreciate it. 💙🇬🇧
