#Thread Contradictory positions adopted by the PNP at war with itself. On Wed May 13, Fin. Minister @DrNigelClarkeJa outlined the necessity to suspend the fiscal rules & push the 60% debt target back by 2 yrs due to the harsh negative global econ. impact of the Covid19 pandemic.
The Opp. Spokesman on Finance immediately indicated agreement to this as it is manifestly clear that this is necessary. (The IMF also, on the following Monday May 18 published an endorsement of 1/ suspension of the fiscal rules & 2/ pushing back of the 60% debt target by 2 years)
The Opposition Leader missed this important sitting of the House where the two sides agreed on the need to 1/ suspend fiscal rules and 2/ push the 60% debt target back by two years.
2 weeks later the Dr Peter Phillips, who is evidently not in touch with the RISE faction of his own party strides in to parliament & listen to him.
Jamaica can judge for itself. Was this blatant and costly contradiction by Dr Phillips a grandstanding attempt to assert his waning authority?
