If I hear one more person talk about how An Garda Síochána are great and shining examples of good police I'm going to fucking lose it. We all know the infamous stories but here's some of my personal stories
In 2016 I was assaulted unprovoked by a teenager in public. A hooked punch to the jaw while I was in the middle of rolling a cigarette. A friend and witness called the local station directly and they did fuck all. Didn't even want me to come in and make a statement
Also in 2016 I was sexually assaulted near a bus stop. Made a statement and get this. Called me in and showed me a photo of someone on the officer's phones asking if this was the guy. Offhandedly saying they're not supposed to show me this. Said I couldn't know for sure.
Never heard from them again. 100% certain my case was abandoned without even having the good graces to fucking tell me.
In 2018 I was assaulted by minors in public. Went directly to the Garda station to make a statement. Half way through I was told they can't do anything. Told me they'll call me within the week to actually record my statement. I'm still waiting on that call.
In 2020 someone I know was assaulted while on a break during an event. While they are being treated for a headwound, gardai had a chat to the guy, watched CCTV footage of the assault, SHOOK THE GUYS HAND and let him walk away.
Don't give me this "there are some good one's" bullshit. What happened to George Floyd is just the tip of it. Police have ALWAYS done what they think they can get away with. And the black community have suffered under them for it for generations.
