the last few years have seen my health deteriorate in a few ways — the little problems you ignore when you’re uninsured turn into big deals by the time you get health insurance, apparently — so i’ve been unable to go to any protests because, frankly, i’m a liability.
but what i got alongside my health insurance was a job that pays well and that’s required to exist and be filled. i don’t have to worry about my next paycheck. so i’m sitting at home helping friends however i can and donating money where i can.
so if you’re stuck at home like me, text your friends and ask them how they’re doing and what they need. find a bail fund to donate to. community defense goes beyond barricades. how we care for each other off the streets matters just as much as how we care for each other on them.
if that doesn’t feel like enough, find the people doing jail support and see if you can help. help document what’s happening. learn to blur faces in pictures and videos and offer to do that for people. there’s more to do than just be on the streets, and it’s all important.
