Here's why you (white people especially) can't be silent anymore:

I was 27 on a 3hr drive with two friends, another Latino and a white guy. We stopped before we left. They got a 12 pack to drink. I was driving so I got a 32oz diet coke.
An hour into the drive, a deputy's car passed us. I was driving 2 miles over the limit. My Latino friend (darker than me) were in front. Our white friend in the back. The deputy turned around and lights came on. I got my DL and insurance out.
The white officer asked me what was in my cup. I was diet coke. He asked to see it, sniffed it then poured it out. Told me to get out of the car and gave me a sobriety test, which I passed. He went back to the car. Inside were 8 empty beer cans. 3 in front. 5 in back.
He asked me Latino friend how many he had to drink. He told him 3, and also said that I wasn't drinking. He doesn't drink. Officer says I didn't ask that. Then goes to the back window, asks my white friend (who drank the most) "so how many have they had to drink?" Same answer
Deputy walks back to me. I don't believe you. You had something to drink but I'm going to be nice and let you go. But I may not be so nice next time, "Comprende?" (Understand in Spanish) "Yes, sir. Thank you." I painfully said while seething inside.
This is why white people have to say something now because it doesn't matter what we say. We aren't to be believed. In many minds, we minorities (especially Black people) are seen as the problem: Only we cause unemployment, only we cheat the system,
only we drive property values down, we are looters taking advantage of the protest while billionaires who make billions off the quarantine are "typical". It doesn't matter if we follow the rules, because it still isn't good enough.
It doesn't matter what we say as long as a white person says it for us (women, sound familiar?) I, and many others like me, are just fed up.

We're mad as hell, and we just aren't going to take it anymore. And if you really are our friends, you should be too.
