re: “looting” —

last night in dtla we saw some reporter and his cameraman lurk outside a cvs with a busted front window waiting for people to go inside. when they finally did, the reporter sprang into action filming a news hit about it.
he didn’t even pretend to be interested in the police.
the news knows how giddy and eager so many viewers are to rage about this. (he was beaming when he began filming.)
if you’re a white person loudly wringing your hands about “looting,” you’re giving the cops+national guard license to be even more brutal to the black community members you aren’t showing up to help defend...
...and to a tv news industry that’s more than happy to place blame on community members, esp when it takes scrutiny off the cops.

this one didn’t finish filming—we chased him back to his car and he peeled away sulking—but know that your both-sides equivocations endanger people
