As a reminder to my brothers & sisters in the #armedforces:
You swore an oath. That oath was to protect the people of this country. Your own families. Your friends and neighbors.
If you are ordered to turn your weapons on these people, your superiors are violating that oath.
I understand the uncertainty.
I know the feeling of fear and anxiety that comes from questioning. From disobedience.
But consider where that feeling comes from.
It is rooted in the conflict between command, and conscience. Between what is legal, and what is right.
You did not enlist to become the puppet, the wind-up soldier, the tool of an oppressive regime, and most certainly not against your own people.
Your fellow Americans.
And while race has been the trigger of this uprising, it has grown far beyond that. It is a general revolt.
I cannot doubt that in the days to come, you will be forced to make a choice, between domination, and democracy.
Between justice, and “just us.”
I beg you to remember the spirit of your oath.
The oath I too took, a lifetime ago.
Soldier, protect the people.
