To my well-intentioned white friends. Here's a harsh truth I need you to accept:

Some Black folks will never be okay with you. And if you truly care about righting racial injustice, you have to fight for us anyway.

White people, white culture, and white institutions have demoralized, dehumanized, tortured, and killed Black folks for generations.

Your systems have left us trapped in an abusive relationship for literal centuries.

And I do believe that with a LOT of very hard work abusers deal with their shit and stop their abusive behaviour. I believe abusers can work to repair the harm they did...if the folks they've harmed are willing to participate in that process.

But...and please pay attention...the abused are under no obligation to participate in that process.

The folks they've harmed don't have to put their faith in their abuser ever, ever again. They are 100% entitled to tell their abuser to fuck off and leave them alone.

Meanwhile, if the abuser is truly committed to no longer being abusive, they have an obligation to continue working on themselves, so they don't continue to perpetuate the harm they've inflicted on folks in the past.

Sorry, well-intentioned white people. Some of us will let you work with us to repair the harm you've caused us. Some of us won't. Ultimately it's none of your business.

Your business is figuring out how to clean up this colonialist, imperialist mess you've made.
