Like most Americans I have seen the video of the tragic death of George a Floyd earlier this week at the hands of a Minneapolis cop.. it’s truly sickening.. and unfortunately something that takes place in the US at an unacceptable rate /1
Last year 1,002 people were killed by cops, 23.5% of them black.. I’d like to think that in most cases the use of lethal force by police is justified.. But in too many cases, bad cops abuse power and use disproportionate force that inflict criminal injury and death 2/
Vast majority of cops are good hard working people who risk their lives daily to protect our communities and keep law and order.. Bast majority of police departments have rules and regulations that help weed out bad cops and prosecute abuse of power 3/
We can certainly do with better rules and more prosecution against bad cops. However, people are imperfect and no matter how diligent the rules we create are, there will always be bad humans who would break and abuse them.. 4/
Literally everyone on both sides of the political spectrum condemned the Minneapolis cop who has since been fired, arrested and charged.. And it’s an unfortunate fact of reality that he won’t be the last cop abusing power or committing a senseless killing 5/
Protesting against abuse of power by the police is certainly a necessary political action.. Just as protesting abuse of power by politicians or dereliction of duty by those who are supposed to protect us 6/
At the same time, rioting, looting and arson constitute an abuse of a democratic process by opportunist who seek to hijack legitimate protests and grief to seed chaos in our neighborhoods, destroying lives and livelihoods along the way 7/
I was concerned earlier in the week when MSM engaged in blatant rationalization and justification of looting and violence that accompanied some of the protests. Such rationalization has only invited more violence and riots since bad actors no longer viewed looting as criminal 8/
So now in addition to abuse of power by the cops, we have abuse of democratic process by agents of chaos who have hijacked the protests and the abuse of their pulpit by the MSM who have encouraged criminal behavior by justifying it 9/
At the same time, in many cases city mayors have engaged in appeasement by ordering their police forces to stand down in the face of criminal violence. This is another form of abuse of power by local officials who aid disorder by committing dereliction of duty 10/
As mayors in some cities have abandoned any semblance of maintaining law and order, riots have gripped more and more cities, because allowing looting/arson/violence with impunity only invites more of it 11/
The unfortunate thing in all of this, that the newsflow, focus and attention have now shifted from legitimate anger and protests to the violence committed by those who hijacked the protests because they were allowed to do so with impunity 12/
At the same time, many of the businesses looted and torched are owned by black business owners.. and far from achieving justice, these riots are resulting in more injustice along the way, 13/
And while all of this taking place media continues to encourage violence by either pretending it’s not taking place or encouraging through increasingly more convoluted justification acrobatics 14/
At the same time, local politicians are trying to deflect responsibility by blaming out of state actors or white nationalists for the violence, like the mayor of Minneapolis did the other day before he was forced to walk his comments back when contrary evidence emerged 15/
There is also plenty of evidence that the the radical left antifa groups have been heavily engaged in acts of violence across American cities.. they have become a feature in every riot over the past few years 16/
And the fact that most media have been either outright supportive of them or rationalizing their behavior or pretending that they are a force for good makes the media willing accomplices of these radicals 17/
To underscore once more, legitimate protests are our democratic right, but rioters abuse that right by drowning political speech in senseless violence and shifting the focus from the crime committed by Minneapolis cop to the crimes committed by them 18/
Here is one example of a man being beaten to practically death for trying to protect a shop from looters ( imagine for a moment if he were black and those kicking him were white ) 19/

The truth of the matter is that none of the people engaged in looting, arson and violence are there to protest or to grieve over George Floyd.. they are there to create chaos and take advantage of local authorities ordering police to stand down 20/
If I were a business owner whose shop was torched or looted, I would be suing my city and/or refuse to pay local taxes for abandoning their duty to maintain law and order 21/
I also don’t see how these events won’t motivate more and more people to exercise their 2nd amendment rights and to eventually use lethal force to defend against those attacking their places of business because the cops aren’t there to do so .. 22/ https://twitter.com/OrwellNGoode/status/1266945655219654659?s=20
I think some of the ways to prevent rioters from hijacking legitimate protests in the future should be instituting minimum prison sentences for those caught looting or rioting during mass protests 23/
I also think that the federal and state governments should institute a process by which they can take over managing localities and local police departments whenever local officials commit dereliction of duty by willfully allowing rampant chaos in their communities 24/
I also find it appalling that some local officials use this chaos as a political opportunity to bash the President.. even as in this particular case ( Jsut likenin manu similar before ), the policy brutality occurred in a city 25/
Run by Democrats, in a state run by a democrat, with a democrat DA.. none of whom have lifted a finger to remove the bad cop who has had a long history of the abuse of power 26/
None of these blame shifting officials who deem themselves “allies” of the protestors are trying to solve the problem.. they are too busy deflecting blame and too busy creating sound bites they think will help them get RE-elected.. this is also a special kind of abuse 27/
Take mayor de Blasio.. under his watch, there has been a spike in anti-Semitic attacks in NYC largely perpetrated by African Americans, that culminated with murders in neighboring Westchester and Newark 28/
Not only these incidents and their roots were not acknowledged and addressed but de Blasio pretended that perpetrators belong to groups other than those who have committed.. Jsut like Minneapolis mayor earlier this week 29/
By pretending that perps are other than who they actually are, both deBlasio and Jacob Frey only give further license to actual perps to continue committing their criminal acts with impunity 30/
In the case of deBlasio he felt safe not tackling spike in anti-Semitic attack by African-Americans in NYC because he could feel secure that Hasidic Jews won’t respond with looting, arson and rioting 31/
That’s why he went further and singled out NYC Jews gathering for a funeral or to study at a yeshga during COVID by sending cops to break them up.. while standing idly by and rationalizing rioting taking place now 32/
The politicians who aren’t taking responsibility for their communities by deflecting blame or allowing riots and looting destroy them aren’t the “allies” of protestors.. they are de facto allies of those who hijack the protests and compound to injustice by destroying 33/
..lives and livelihoods.. and should be treated as such.. 34/
Unfortunately, we live in the times where true leadership is rare.. and where there abuse of power by the cops, the local officials, the media and agents of chaos are all too common 35/
The events of this week didn’t jsut focus attention towards police brutality but illustrated the instinctive abuses of power by a whole variety of institutions that pretend to exist for the benefit of the society at large 36/
