I often wonder how much of "racism" is just misinterpreted flirting or friendly teasing.

Growing up, nobody around me was my race and I got called every slur imaginable. A lot of that turned out to be akin to hazing rituals that initiated me into their in-groups.
Real hatred-based racism exists, but I think it's a lot rarer than most people think.

A lot of times, if you can crack good jokes and show your self-confidence, the racist bullies can be turned into friends. Racism is mimetic, most people don't really know why they act that way.
Much of the time when people make ignorant remarks at you, they just want your attention. They have no ill intentions, they are just curious about you and what makes you different, and want to see if they could make a connection with you and be friends.
I think this is why people associate "Karen" with racism. Karen is an archetype of passive aggression.

A Karen would never straight up call you a racial slur, but she would call the cops on you if you used racial slurs among friends as terms of endearment.
Unpopular opinion: the dog owner Karen who called the cops on the birdwatcher was more racist than the cop who killed the man with the knee choke.

It was the single most racist act ever picked up by the news. It exposed the manipulative tactic of playing victim to frame others.
The Karen thinks that if she virtue signals that she hates rednecks, then that means she's not racist against minorities.

No, that just means she's racist against both rednecks and minorities. In fact, the redneck should be considered a minority group.
I'm reminded of this great video by Zizek:

Zizek said: telling offensive jokes is a great ice breaker.
When you feel real connection with another human being, you never have politically correct milquetoast conversations. https://twitter.com/sren1337/status/1267121908090310665
Behind every ___ man is a ___ woman.

Behind every racist cop is a Karen.

Karen snitches on minority men, racist cops simp for Karen. The minority man pays for the Karen's mating ritual.

The ancient proverb "snitches get stitches" warned us of this. https://twitter.com/0x49fa98/status/1265731522293874688
