Ask your students if they will share their info with you so you can bail them out if need be.
They may be away from home and not have anyone local with both time and money who can vouch for them.
This varies, I’m sure. But in my experience, people need someone who will vouch for their identity and address if they’re to be released on their own reconnaissance (ie without cash bail on a promise to appear.) Get name, DOB, social and address.
You’re a grown up with disposable cash? Donate it to bail funds or pay for folks parking at protests.
No disposable cash? Don’t feel safe marching? Make signs and drop them off.
No cash? No phone? No ride? No time? Just sort of keep to yourself. It’s better to be a non-entity than to add poison to the ether.
You can be a support in so many ways and none of them include complaining about how people do what you yourself won’t do.
And if you don’t know a single person you can reach out to help or find out how you can help in the community where you pay taxes, ask yourself how that’s possible. Work on that.
Because that isolation is probably why you think you know what people “should” be doing even though you yourself haven’t done a damn thing.
