I was a full timer at Fife College Students’ Union when Sheku Bayoh was killed. He had been a student. I can still remember getting the notification that a man had died, I was getting off a train. It felt surreal - this wasn’t meant to happen here.
I think about Sheku and his family a lot. I also think about the police officer involved in his death, whose own brother in law reported him for violence against his parents and egregious racism.
After Sheku died I heard young people of colour locally say how they crossed the road if they saw police officers, that hurt.
There’s no point to this thread. No insight. It’s just a horrific waste and it hits closer to home than we all realise
