Been seeing a lot of “public unions are the problem” with bad police continuing to be employed. Yes, in thay case, it is part of the problem. But in other public unions, the idea that 10% of the workers are bad don’t have the same life or death consequences.
For example: if 10% of garbagemen are bad garbagemen, 10% of garbage is picked up slower. It has no impact on life and death. Police need to be treated differently than other public unions. Citizen control boards should be able to remove bad officers.
The other problem is with the police, it seems like their bad behavior doesn’t directly harm other police, it kills and harms citizens. In a firefighters union, a shitty fireman is putting other firemen at risk and would be more likely to be held in check/reprimanded.
I’m probably going to delete this thread later. I don’t think it accomplishes much. But I feel like “it is public unions” doesn’t come near summing up the problem with bad police.
