A Thread: Please all me to be very personal and vulnerable for a moment about my fear, my anger, my plea for each of you.
I have an amazing daughter, who has suffered, who will continue to suffer, for no other reason than the color of her skin.

When she was 6, she was told she was not allowed to attend the birthday party of a girl in the neighborhood, one all her other friends who attend, because the girl said, "my parents hate black people, they are dirty." Was there a consequence for the racist family?

No. All the other girls attended but they had a choice, at the very least, their parents had a choice, to not be silent. To let their ACTIONS say this is not ok. But they didn't.

So if i'm angry that our local politicians go on and on about how heartbroken they are that a building, A BUILDING, was spray painted. This is why i'm angry.

My daughter was a rising soccer star. At 11 years old, pro scouts and college recruiters started attending her matches. That all came crashing down when an opposing coach chased her down on the field, during game play, grabbing her by her shoulders...

...attempting to strike her as racist vitriol came foaming out of his mouth. She was physically saved by the actions of game officials and parents coming to her rescue. Was this racist coach punished? No criminal charges. No slap on the wrist from UYSA. No loss of license.

So if i'm angry when local leaders, friends, people I respect on social media, even family members address every situation in which a Black person is treated less than human with the same template "Of course what happened was horrible BUT...."
Now you know why.

With the idea of soccer gone, my daughter turned to excelling in high school yet for some reason her grades never truly reflected the work she was putting in.
Until an office aid, the son of a prominent Utah entrepreneur, was caught changing her grades...

...after bragging to some friends that he had access to everyone's final grades and "changed the Black girl's grades so she would fail like she deserves."
Punishment? LOL...nah, he was told what he did was wrong, kept his office job, wasn't expelled from school, nothing.

So if i get a little bit angry when people retort "every life matters" and "blue lives matter" when people chat BLACK LIVES MATTER. This is why.
Because Black Lives DO Matter yet the system teaches each of them, including my daughter, that they don't.

I have had enough. I will no longer stay silent. I have reached a point where I will risk my friendships, my family relationships, my business, to make a difference if only in my daughter's life. If only in my son's life (he will learn he has a harder road than her.)

I have had enough. I would lay down my own life to protect my children and give them a better future if I could.
I know by sharing this I will invite attacks, I will invite friends who say "that's horrible what she has gone through BUT..."

No more buts. No more silence. You are either an active part of the solution through your ACTIONS or you are directly part of the problem.
So if i'm angry, if i'm fearful, now you know why.
So my plea to you, stand up, get off the sidelines, and choose.

Choose the side that you are going to be on in the history books.
More importantly, choose the side of humanity as judged by a fair and just God that you will be on, because the middle ground, the other side, can't be saved by church attendance alone.

For me, for my family, we have chosen the side that knows that all people are created equal, that choose to treat people with love, with dignity, with respect, regardless of the color of their skin.
We choose love. Will you join us?
