Let’s go to San Lorenzo. A small (maybe bit too long actually? - Ed.) thread:
Our journey started in Beodo which was, still is, the spiritual home of San Lorenzo de Almagro and where they hope to return to soon. Money problems & men in suits meant they had to leave back in the day. Tsk.
Since 1993 they’ve been playing in Bajo Flores, which is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous areas of the city, at the Nuevo Gasómetro. I didn’t take many photos outside because a) I was told not to & b) I was shaking like a leaf:
Getting in the ground early affords you the luxury of a quick look around which is absolutely lovely:
And then in come the La Gloriosa Butteler (Barra Brava) who arrive hanging out of buses with no windows (photos no allowed but it was best ever) and they start a party underneath their stand. Excuse the photo with me in it briefly running the show:
Annoyingly the actual match then starts:
Some fans that caught my eye. If it wasn’t ever so slightly dangerous I’d still be there now taking photos of the fans:
And then after the match everybody troops back into town as one - again no photos allowed - against a backdrop of slums and riot police but with safety in numbers it’s not too bad and you reflect on the time of your life. Conclusion: 10/10 would go again.
