The WI Assembly Speaker wants accountability for protests. Criticizing the liberal capital is partly schtick. But it also makes it fair to ask what Vos has done, or not, to deal with racial issues in WI over the last decade when he has been arguably the most powerful WI pol. 1/ https://twitter.com/repvos/status/1267065253944266753">https://twitter.com/repvos/st...
Predominantly black Milwaukee neighborhoods have some of the worst incarceration rates in the country. The state is incredibly overdue for criminal justice reforms happening elsewhere. But Vos continues to push "tough on crime" legislation even in 2020. 2/ https://newrepublic.com/article/155241/inside-most-incarcerated-zip-code-country">https://newrepublic.com/article/1...
Aligned with police unions, Vos led changes to residency requirements, meaning police no longer had to live in the city they served. Trolling Black History Month has become an annual GOP Assembly event. But hard to top the time when the all-white WI GOP removed Colin Kaepernick for those to be honored, the guy who peacefully protested about police brutality, because it would be "too divisive" per Vos 5/
While Vos held power it became harder for black voters in WI to vote. Early voting ton Sundays that black churches used for "souls to polls" mobilization was eliminated and Voter ID hit the black community harder. 6/
