Disturbed by the coded language and dog-whistles I saw on Duluth Twitter last night. Folks claiming that "looters" and "outside agitators" were coming up North from the cities. Saw rumors that the mall was being looted - it wasn't.

I was watching streams and following social media late. There was a very small group of protesters driving around and having peaceful confrontations with police. There was a traffic incident of a few violent folks attacking a gas station employee who received rib damage.

Another small fight between a couple protesters that ended in a person getting maced. This is sad but it is minor stuff. Most the folks out last night were obviously peaceful. The rumors about the mall being looted were obviously designed to cause fear in suburban white people.

The church of capitalism being attacked by outsiders is such a clear narrative designed to cause a reaction. I saw mentions of the foot locker specifically being looted (I wonder why). It's gross. Don't fall for it. This tiny town is not like the (justified) uprisings elsewhere.

Report what you see directly, verify rumors before spreading them, ask yourself if something is designed to get a reaction out of you.
