About 3 years ago, I voted for the first time in history. Yes, I voted for Trump, and yes I voted pretty blindly because I didn’t know lickty split about anyone, even for the other party. I didnt have any recollection after I walked out of voting because I just don’t care.
The next few years, I’ve sort of slowly adapted more to politics than ever before. It’s still nothing that I’m passionate about, but compared to the Zane 3 years ago I’d say more educated about it than I was back then, to a degree.
It’s still not a topic I’m comfortable talking about, but if I just want to give my position on something then I’m going to my best. My passion is movies, tv or music. That’s really all I ever want to talk about, but if something serious needs to be discussed I will contribute.
Everything that has happened since my first time voting is clearly not what I wanted to see happen. I never had a thing for Trump nor was I against him because I was neutral on him as a President. I wasn’t going to get offended if someone told me that they hated him.
Same for someone with rational thinking would support him. I’ve never been that person and I’m still never going to be that person. It’s all opinions and I just have the time to argue politics.
However, with 2020 already being a struggle with COVID-19 & these riots/protests, I’ve never been more uncomfortable with living in my country than ever before. The death of George Floyd is horrific and the cops responsible SHOULD get severe punishment.
I’ll never know what it’s like to be oppressed. I’ll never understand what it’s like to be black man or woman in today’s time or over the vast time of history. I’m also in the mindset where people’s voices should always be heard and expressed no matter what.
That said, from everything I’m seeing happening in major cities around the world, including my own, I think I’m also in a place where I’m not comfortable voting for anyone for this presidential election. I don’t support Trump. I don’t not like Trump.
I really just don’t care for him. But what I do care is the safety for the 320 millions of Americans that are living with us. I don’t want people’s lives more at risk and I think all lives should matter, especially in times like this.
Look, take my opinion with a grain of salt. I’m just a movie guy. I don’t study up on this kind of issue as much as I should. Heck, I’m horrified typing this thread out because I know I’m gonna get called out a fucking moron by someone.
But I do care. I may not be spreading stuff on my social media feed, but I do care. I’m just trying to live my life the best I can. I’m open to everyone. Just because I’m white doesn’t mean I’m a racist or support Trump. I’m none of those things and my dear friends know that.
My heart breaks for the people who are actually suffering from this and I can’t even imagine how they must feel about loosing a loved one like George Floyd. However, the idea of looting, burning down buildings and causing violence to others hasn’t sat well with me at all.
The same goes for the cops. Not all of them but the ones in particular need to serve the consequences. We need to speak up and we need to take action. But from my point of view, causing all this domestic terrioism isn’t the solution.
My god, I hope everyone is safe. Call a friend, hug a family member or even hug your dog. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
