These rapes and sexual abuse that are being highlighted now should have been brought into light way back. People shocked by the fact that sexual abuse of women and rape culture is now being normalised in Kashmir too, should know it has been a part of it for years already. 1/n
Also, the number of cases that are being highlighted don't even do half of the Justice to the the actual number of cases that were/are supposed to be covered and talked about. 2/n
Eve teasing, sexual abuse, harassment, rapes and marital rapes, all of these are a part of our Kashmiri society too and the sooner we understand the fact that it's no longer a Valley of Saints, the better it will be for women who live here, go through it and fear to speak. 3/n
I remember being a 4th grader, I was sexually abused by the imam of our local masjid.
You realize how Kashmiri families believe in "maetravun" and all? I fell ill and my dad asked him to pay a visit. 4/n

The fact that he was an imam and a preacher too, my mother left me alone with him and went down to bring some tea for him. I still can't forget how he put his hand inside my t-shirt and his touch on my naked skin still sends shivers down my spine. 5/n
I remember one of my cousins coming home from tuitions, with the sleeves of her shirt completely dirty and wet because a man of our father's age standing next to her seat in the bus had done something so ugly, my fingers shiver while even typing it. 6/n

Every woman at least once in her life would have been though it even if she was covered from head to toe. Somebody sexual frustration shouldn't have been justified by judging a woman on how she should have dressed at first place. 10/n
Rape culture and sexual abuse might not completely end by taking these tiny steps but, at least it can be controlled. At least then, us and the women that come after us can have an enlightened, open minded and accepting society which has more to give then just mere judging.
