Restless last night, here’s why:
Representation in schools is so important whether it’s in books, the curriculum or even amongst staff members. We have to expose children to people who look and are different to them. (1/4)
Kids aren’t born racist - it’s a learnt behaviour. With racism still prevalent in our world, we as educators, have a moral duty to educate our children and not be afraid to have these conversations & often try undo what is subconsciously engrained.(2/4)
I’ve been teaching for 2 & half yrs in the same school (99% white) & I’ve made it my duty to talk about race (probs not done at 🏡) & include people like Claudette C, Malala & MLK in my teaching. I also talk openly & encourage chn to ask me Qs which can be Qs about being blk. 3/4
This short thread was prompted by the death of #GeorgeFloyd. It’s devastating. Do your bit and educate the children of the future. IMO, if you aren’t actively anti-racist (being neautral), you’re part of the problem.

Talk talk talk to the kids, man! (4/4)
