I used to be told I was lucky for being white passing. I used to be scared for my obviously mixed brother just incase someone had an issue. I’d be scared when my black dad would go out in our predominately white town. I’d worry about my black grandmother going to church.

I’d be in peoples households who didn’t know I was mixed and hear some of the most disgusting racist language and I wouldn’t say a thing because I was scared how I’d be treated. When someone did find out I was pinned against a wall by my throat and called the n word.

I got into a fight because someone called my brother the n word. One of my ‘friends’. I read my school leavers book and along with ‘we love you goodbye’ people felt comfortable to call me the n word. I used to get the ‘You didn’t say your dad was black’.

I mean as if that was required so they could place me in their world. Racism is literally everywhere.This is one persons experience, one person who actually can easily pass as white. I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I couldn’t. That is privilege

It depresses me to say that I have the privilege to hide and blend in and I did for years. Because it was safer. People don’t understand the constant microaggressions black people face in society daily. Blaming comments on ignorance. You are not allowed to be ignorant.

There is no need to be ignorant. Educate yourself. People are dying because of ignorance. Because Karen didn’t care enough to educate herself about her own privileges and why her words could end someones life (Amy Cooper).

Actually scrap that. People are dying because people with privilege recognise it and use it. I am above you, you don’t get to speak to me like that and you will see what I can do to punish you.

I don’t know what the point of this was. I’m just so angry. If you recognise you are a person in privileged position use that privilege to help. To save lives. To make a difference. I’m not saying please.
