if you’re a kpop stan who also happens to be black, i know this time is the especially hard for us. kpop is obviously and bluntly and sometimes Scarily ripped from black culture. we’ve seen idols in cornrows and dreads and referencing things like “reggae beats”
we’ve seen idols do blackface and say the n-word and so desperately try to emulate what they see in black culture. so, with all of that in mind, this group—as a whole—especially presents as those who would up. or maybe Should. so far, this hasn’t been the case.
comes to a point where you start to question if the ppl you’ve spent so much of your time a) supporting and b) FORGIVING has the same RESPECT and SENSITIVITY toward you. you as a person. you as a Black person. bc again, no one is obligated to speak out. but perhaps they Should.
and as a fan, i don’t have any extensive negativity toward any person—celebrity, idol—who hasn’t publicly shown their support. bc i undestand there is a grocery list of reasons they or anyone else could pull out. i undestand they couldn’t donated $1M silently. i’m very aware.
but that doesn’t stop the weariness and the questioning that happens a bit naturally. bc, we as fans, have a lot of FAITH in our idols. a lot of faith that yes they care and yes they support and yes they love me—us—back. supporting loudly simply gives peace of mind on their side.
tbh, not even in this situation alone but just how i think: i don’t have expectations for anyone. not ever, really. so i don’t know if the word i’m feeling rn is exactly disappointment. but at times like this silence is extremely loud. this is a time Not to be silent, is my point
