Even out here in conservative #Temecula, those who walk a diffeeent path stand in solidarity, united in the fight to bring #JusticeForGeorge. Young and diverse, the protestors faced an unnecessary force of might unmatched to the peaceful presence of those who stood their ground.
Walking in to the gathering at the Temecula Pond, a common spot for political demonstrations, the police presence is heavy. They’ve closed down the entire block, not allowing anybody in on the street. This is the first time I’ve seen this kind of presence here in all my life.
Finding a way around, I made my way towards the crowd, passing pockets of onlookers watching from a distance.
#Temecula is a small drop trying to be a big splash in the world of mostly white, conservative working class California cities, so walking up to a few hundred humans gather to #SayHisName was a beautiful sight. The watching eye of law enforcement can’t stop them from being heard.
Emotions flared in all directions as members of the group expressed their voices in their own beautiful ways. Some stood in anger, others took a knee in love, but they all raised hell for justice in the name of #GeorgeFloyd, and to say to the police that #BlackLivesMatter .
Working my way behind the police line, they face hundred faces of the future. Faces that show determination for our cause, below signs held high that send messages meant to chip away at the corrupt root that has infected police forces from west coast to east. #GeorgeFloydProtests
These are our #SignsOfTheTimes.
No lives matter until #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER.
The group then sat down in unity, refusing to disperse. They’ve come to be heard, and they’re not going anywhere until they’ve said their piece.
Things take a change of pace when one officer steps up to exchange dialog with the group, offering to answer questions from anyone who had them. Video of the exchanges in the next post.
There was heated exchange, but overall, the deputy actually seemed interested and invested in hearing the voices of those who spoke up. He almost steps over *our* line.
“God doesn’t say pick an evil. No, God says pick a side - and if they’re both evil, you don’t pick.”
Whether you take his word as truth or with a gigantic block of salt, things went differently here today than so many other places. #GeorgeFloydProtest
My time at this protest came to an end, but just as I was about to leave, something unique happened. Joined with applause from the protestors, the sheriff and one of the protestors joined in an unlikely moment of camaraderie. I only wish they could have done it 6’ apart.
